Timber House, Curl Curl Beach House by CpluC Architects

This timber house design, Curl Curl Beach House by CplusC Architecs, is located in Sydney’s Northern Beach. The beach house exploits the structural and aesthetic benefits of timber with impressive result. The project includes two bedrooms with build-in robes, bathroom a dining room, kitchen, living room and a deck. A shared driveway, a services easement, and a compact site influenced the form of the building envelope and allowed the architects to maximize internal floor area without sacrificing external amenity. Natural ventilation in all directions, two integral fish ponds and vegetation, large awnings and timber screening designed to make the house comfortable to the changing climatic conditions.
A central structural zone separated the public spaces to the east from private spaces to the west. Constructed of timber studwork and clad with Spruce veneer this central structure accommodates the service and storage requirements of the home and integrates corridors that link public and private areas.
Externally, stud frame walls are clad with Western Red Cedar shiplap boards, stained black and orientated vertically. This creates a bold, modest aesthetic which contrasts with the clear oiled Western Red Cedar doors and windows, used specifically in this application due to its light weight and durability.
